The Great Seal of the State of Minnesota — current design
Based on the 1849 Territorial Seal by Seth Eastman, this seal was adopted in 1858, along with Minnesota's statehood, by first Governor Henry Hastings Sibley. The seal has undergone several revisions, including in 1971 and 1983—but its imagery remains problematic.
